Carlos R. and Mary Garcia sold their modest home in San Antonio to purchase the El Chaparral in Helotes on February 2nd. It was formerly known as Rudy and Irene’s which had been a Mexican establishment for twenty-four years. Little did they know that this little hole in the wall would someday turn into such a world class destination.
The famous “Bean Soup” that customers have come to adore was introduced as a free appetizer to all guests. Served the same way today as it was back in 1977!
Jessica was the only daughter of El Chaparral owners, Carlos and Mary Garcia and the sister of Carlos and Gabe Garcia. She was tragically killed in a car accident on February 25th by a person who suffered from Alzheimer’s disease. She was twenty-seven years old and was a graduate of St. Mary’s University. Her memory lives on forever and everything that is done at the El Chaparral is dedicated in honor of her!
Grand re-opening of the newly expanded El Chaparral Restaurant in Helotes and the dedication of “Jessica’s Jardin.” The restaurant was transformed from a small tiny hangout to a large ten thousand square foot landmark.
